LACC’s Statement Regarding COVID-19
On June 11, 2020, the Reopening Safer at Work and in the Community Revised Order was updated as we move into Stage 3 of the County’s Roadmap to Recovery. The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health is adopting a staged approach, supported by science and public health expertise, to allow certain businesses to reopen with specific requirements and protocols in place, including proper physical distancing. These orders continue to include the temporary curtailment of large public events & gatherings.

Statement March 25, 2020
On March 19, Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti joined County officials to issue a “Safer at Home” emergency order – ordering residents to stay inside their residences, and immediately limit all movement outside of their homes beyond what is absolutely essential (i.e. groceries, pharmacies). Shortly after this order, California Governor Newsom issued a stay-at-home order to protect the health and well-being of all Californians. These orders include the temporary closure of all entertainment venues, convention centers and public events & gatherings until April 19, 2020.
At this time, all LACC events thru April 19th have been canceled or postponed. We will continue to keep this page current as updates develop. Thank you for your understanding during this time.
Statement March 12, 2020
On March 12, Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti issued a directive to help slow the spread COVID-19, strengthening the local response to the outbreak with measures that include new limits on public gatherings in City facilities. This includes a ban on all events or conferences on City-owned properties including the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) that are anticipated to attract more than 50 people until March 31, 2020.
Statement March 5, 2020
The Los Angeles Convention Center is aware of the decision by the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a “public health emergency of international concern” over the current Novel Coronavirus, COVID-19, situation and we are closely monitoring this evolving conversation. We are looking to the most current advisories from the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the LA County Department of Public Health to promote individual self-health practices that are standard in typical flu season. These practices include frequent washing of hands, coughing into your elbow, sneezing into a tissue, staying up-to-date on vaccinations, avoiding contact with people who are already sick whenever possible and other smart practices each of us should follow as recommended by U.S. public health officials.
To this end, the Los Angeles Convention continues to maintain its high standard of cleaning practices in line with OSHA and LEED requirements throughout our facility:
- The LACC has doubled hand-sanitizing stations throughout public areas and within cafés.
- Our cleaning staff uses disinfecting electrostatic sprayers in high-traffic areas. This nightly process uses hospital-grade disinfecting solution that blankets and cures onto surfaces.
- Eliminated use of microfiber cleaning clothes in public areas and, instead have implemented single-use disinfecting cleaning cloths exclusively in all high-touch areas and kitchen/café locations.
- Daily and frequent attention to high-touch areas, including doorknobs, lecterns, light switches, escalator rails, trash receptacles, elevator buttons, water stations, and bathroom areas.
- Daily cleaning and sanitation of carpet and floor covering in public areas.
- The LACC continues to use cleaning products that are on the EPA’s emerging viral pathogen guidance list that are effective, industrial-grade while still being consistent with the Green Cleaning Policy for LEED Buildings.
US health officials’ expert advice indicates that trade and travel in the U.S. can continue as normal and that the COVID-19 risk in the U.S. remains relatively low.
On March 4, 2020, Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, joined by the leadership of the LA County Department of Public Health, declared a public health emergency for the City of Los Angeles. This strategic move will help the City of Los Angeles access state and federal funding to strengthen and support current strong efforts to prepare the region and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Simply put, the City of Los Angeles is committed to do everything in its power, leave no stone unturned and no resource untapped to preserve the safety and well-being of Angelenos and those who visit the City of Angels.
